LANCASTER, Pa. -- Host Franklin & Marshall, the 12th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, the region's 20th-ranked team, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match today in Lancaster, Pa. The Diplomats improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 4-4 and 1-1 with the loss.
In doubles, William MacArthur and Nolan Bacchieri beat junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]), 8-5, at No. 1, Doug Kaplan and Tommy Weibye bestedjunior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), 8-1, at No. 2, and Kazuhiro Tomioka and Joshua Kane downed senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), 8-4, at No. 3.
MacArthur won at the top singles spot, 6-1, 6-3, against Rajes. Weibye beat Cywinski, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, Kaplan bested Holtschneider, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3, and Kane blanked Joel Novick, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Benjamin Stern added an 8-2 victory over Jeremy Novick at No. 5, while Tomioka got the better of Zachary Novick, 9-8(6), at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Haverford.
