Jeremy Novick Wins B5 Draw Singles at ITA Southeast Regionals

Joel Novick Reaches Final in B3 Draw Singles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) won the B5 Draw of singles play to lead the Washington College men's tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Mary Washington, this weekend. 

In B5 Draw singles, Jeremy Novick beat Southern Virginia's Pradeep Ravisankar, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round and defeated Muhlenberg's David Woods, 6-3, 7-6(4). In the semifinals, he defeated Matt McGaffney of Salisbury, 7-5, 6-2, before rolling past Bridgewater's Mike Cable, 6-1, 6-0, in the final.

Both of Jeremy's brothers also found success at the tournament. Senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) reached the final of B3 Draw singles. He defeated Randolph's JT von Seggern, 6-4, 6-1, in the first round, Franklin & Marshall's Hamza Pataudi, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals, and Juniata's Justin Wisniewski, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals. In the final, Joel lost to Greg Cistulli of Christopher Newport, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. 

Freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) reached the semifinals of B6 Draw singles. He beat Roanoke's Chris Migliarese, 6-3, 6-3, in the first round and Randolph-Macon's Brantley Stein, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals before losing to Salisbury's Shanon Gunther, 6-4, 6-1, in the semifinals.

Zachary Novick also reached the semifinals in B1 Draw doubles, playing with junior Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson). They beat Elizabethtown's Matt Hornbaker and Joe Kirchner, 8-2, in the first round and Muhlenberg's Ben Berkowitz and Derrick Eng, 8-1, in the quarterfinals before falling to Salisbury's Shane Gunther and Shanon Gunther, 8-5, in the semifinals. 

In Championship Draw singles, Boaté fell to Mary Washington's Kaleb Nguyen, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round. In the first consolation round, Boaté was eliminated by Andrew Gear of St. Mary's, 8-3. 

In B2 Draw singles, senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) fell to Washington and Lee's Will Bannister, 6-4, 6-1, in the first round. In the consolation quarterfinals, Cywinski lost to Arttu Fiva of Christopher Newport, 8-4. 

Freshman Corey Pippin (Aberdeen, Md./New Covenant Christian School) competed in B3 Draw singles, besting Johnny Xue of Penn State-Harrisburg, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round before falling to Hampden-Sydney's J.B. Weaver, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the quarterfinals.

In Championship Draw doubles, Cywinski and junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) fell to Christopher Newport's Joey Manilla and Chriaag Shetty, 8-0, in the first round and lost to Clark Chapman and Joey Frank of Dickinson, 8-4, in the first consolation round. 

In B1 Draw doubles, freshman Emanuel Keiler (Meriden, Conn./Orville He. Platt) and senior Hunter Scott (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) lost to Juniata's Bryan Gregory and Wisniewski, 8-3, in the first round. and Robert Bishop and Jay Guzzone of St. Mary's, 8-2, in the consolation quarterfinals.
