Novick Wins in Singles for Shoremen
SALISBURY, MD -- Host Salisbury University defeated visiting Washington College, 7-2, in a non-conference men's tennis match this afternoon. The Sea Gulls improved to 13-8 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-9 with the loss.
In doubles, Daniel Albers and Eric Spangler beat WC junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) at No. 1, while Nick Mancuso and Shane Gunther defeated junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township), 8-2, at No. 3. The Shoremen picked up the win at No. 2 where sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall) blanked Adam Goldberger and Demetri Vrahnos, 8-0, at No. 2.
Albers led off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Rajes at No. 1, while Spangler downed Cywinski, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. The Sea Gulls clinched the win when Goldberger completed a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Holtschneider at No. 4. Mancuso added a 7-6(2), 6-3, win against Pearson at No. 6, before Vrahnos downed Boaté, 6-7(3), 4-3, retired, at No. 3. Novick picked up Washington's second point with a 7-5, 7-6(2), win at No. 5.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Gettysburg.
