HAVERFORD, PA -- Host Haverford College, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, blanked visiting Washington College, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon in Haverford, PA. The Fords improved to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in Centennial play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-4 and 1-2 with the loss.
In doubles, Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein, ranked eighth in the region in doubles, defeated junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's), 8-4, at No. 1. Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei added an 8-6 win over sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall) at No. 2 while Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman bested junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township), 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles, Haverford lost just four games combined at the top three singles spots. Caulfield, ranked 10th in the region in singles, beat Rajes, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1, Acaba topped Cywinski, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, and Romei beat Boaté, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3. Dougherty added a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Holtschneider at No. 4, Zack Mason beat Novick, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5, and Cebul downed Pearson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. home match against The College of New Jersey.
