CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis improved to 3-2 overall this season with an 8-1 non-conference win over visiting Randolph-Macon this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center.
The Shoremen rolled through doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) defeated Connor Hoerr and Michael Baxter, 8-4, at No. 1, while sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) blanked John Adam and Richard Brock, 8-0, at No. 2. Junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Ita Usry and Jody Cox at No. 3.
Cywinski won the first singles match to finish, besting Baxter, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Holtschneider then clinched the victory for the Shoremen with a 6-3, 6-4, triumph over Cox at No. 4. Novick added a 6-1, 6-3, win over Tom Lewis at No. 5, and Boaté also won in straight sets at No. 3, 6-2, 7-5. Pearson gave the Shoremen an 8-0 lead by rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, win over Usry at No. 6 before the Yellow Jackets (3-9) picked up their only point of the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7, win by Hoerr over Rajes at No. 1.
Boaté and Novick ran their respective singles records to 5-0 this spring with their victories. Boaté has not lost in doubles this spring either as he and Holtschneider improved to 5-0.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Franklin & Marshall.
