Boaté Wins in Both Singles and Doubles for Shoremen
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Host Virginia Wesleyan topped visiting Washington College, 5-4, in a non-conference men's tennis match this afternoon in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins improved to 3-4 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Virginia Wesleyan led, 2-1, after doubles as Graham Wilson and Drew Tomajczyk beat junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's), 8-5, at No. 1 and Tyler Chang and Lawrence Hunter bested junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township), 8-6, at No. 3. The Shoremen won at No. 2 where sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) defeated Adam Owen Ferrari and Spenser Bullock, 8-4.
The Marlins won three of the six doubles matches to earn the 5-4 win. Wilson beat Rajes, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, Tyler Searcy beat Pearson, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6, and Chang outlasted Holtschneider, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, at No. 4. Searcy's win at No. 6 was clinched the victory. Washington got a 7-6(2), 7-5, win by Cywinski over Tomajczyk at No. 2, a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Novick over Hunter at No. 5, and a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, win by Boaté against Bullock at No. 3.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with an 11:00 a.m. match at Christopher Newport.
