Novick Wins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 Singles, 8-0 at No. 3 Doubles
TOWSON, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over host Goucher College to open its dual match opener this afternoon in Towson, MD.
Junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) played the most competitive doubles match, beating David Spivey and Seth Hoesman, 8-4, at No. 1. The tandems of sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) and junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township) posted 8-0 wins over Pat Murnin and John Bescoby and Cody Nelson and Seth Manfield, respectively.
In singles, Rajes rallied from losing his first set, 7-6(6), to post 6-4, 6-4, wins in the final two sets against Hoesman at No. 1. The rest of the Shoremen won in straight sets. Cywinski beat Spivey, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2, Boaté beat Murnin, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, Holtschneider downed Bescoby, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, Novick blanked Manfield, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and Pearson beat Nelson, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action Friday with their home opener, a 3:00 p.m. match against St. Mary's (MD).
