CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Following a change to the Washington College Hall of Fame by-laws, former tennis player Tomas Lejarraga '99 has been added to the list of 2012 inductees to be honored during the annual Washington College Hall of Fame Ceremony on October 13th.
Lejarraga, who lives in Spain, had been voted for induction in 2011, but could not attend. The Washington College Hall of Fame by-laws, at the time, required living inductees to be present for the induction. Lejarraga is also unable to attend this year's induction. During its September meeting, and after careful consideration, the Washington College Hall of Fame comittee changed its by-laws to allow for inductions "in absentia." Lejarraga was then immediately added to this year's inductees.
Lejarraga was the 1999 Centennial Conference Player of the Year for men's tennis and was a 1999 All-American in both singles and doubles. A two-time All-Centennial Conference first-team selection in both singles and doubles, Lejarraga was also a 1998 Rolex Regional Champion in both singles and doubles. With Tomas on the team, the Shoremen won the 1997 NCAA Division III National Championship and four Centennial Conference Championships.
