Auger, Helenek, Mills Named Men's Swimming Captains
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College head men's swim coach Kim Lessard has named rising seniors Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley), Johnny Helenek (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg), and Ross Mills (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) as the Shoremen's captains for the 2011-12 academic year.
Auger is the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 breaststroke, fifth-fastest ever in the 100 breaststroke, and 10th-fastest ever in the 200 individual medley. He has four career top 10 individual finishes at Centennial Conference Championship meets, placing as high as fourth in the 200 breaststroke at the 2010 championships.
Helenek, who also served as a team captain last year, is the Shoremen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in both the 100 and 200 breastroke events. Has has placed in the top 16 in both breaststroke events at each of the past three Centennial Conference Championship meets, including a pair of 10th-place finishes.
Mills earned a spot on the 2010 and 2011 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Rolls and is the Shoremen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 butterfly. He placed 14th in the 200 butterfly at the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships after a 16th-place finish in the 100 butterfly a year earlier. He was named his team's Most Improved Swimmer as a freshman in 2009.
The Shoremen will host their annual intrasquad Maroon & Black meet October 22nd and will officially kick-off their 2011-12 season with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Gettysburg November 5th.
