CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Seniors Zee Ali (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) and Daniel Benton (Dover, Pa./Dover) and junior Chris Eggstein (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) are serving as captains of the Washington College men's rowing team this season.
Ali was the male winner of the College's Elizabeth "Bo" Blanchard Memorial Sportsmanship Award last spring. He is a two-time All Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) selection, earning varsity honors in 2015 and novice honors in 2014. He was the stroke of the Shoremen's varsity eight last spring and of their varsity four entry at the 2016 IRA National Championships. He has rowed in the Shoremen's top boat since his freshman year.
Benton was named the team's Most Improved Rower last spring. He sat stroke in the second varsity eight as a junior after rowing in novice boats and third varsity eight as a sophomore, his first year of collegiate rowing.
Eggstein was named the team's Most Improved Rower two years ago as a freshman. He sat in the two seat of the Shoremen's first varsity eight each of the past two springs and in their varsity four entry at the 2016 IRA National Championships.
The Shoremen will open the spring portion of their regatta schedule in Philadelphia March 25th when they will race in the Murphy Cup.
