Shoremen's Novice Four Takes Second at Head of the Occoquan

Varsity Eight Places Fifth in its Race

LORTON, Va. — The Washington College men's rowing team competed in four events at the Head of the Occoquan in Lorton, Va., today. The Shoremen's novice four led an impressive Shoremen showing by finishing second of 11 boats in its race.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen's varsity eight started things off by placing fifth of 24 boats in the men's championship eight in 16:15.84. Washington finished ahead of 10 boats from Division I schools and beat out both of Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference rival Franklin & Marshall's entries in the race. Delaware won the race in 15:39.32, Marietta was second in 15:43.48, and Saint Joseph's was third in 15:56.10.
- The novice four then turned in its second-place showing in 19:59.73. Old Dominion won the race in 19:53.87 and Army was third in 20:09.29. The Shoremen were one of only three boats in the race not from Division I schools.
- Next up was the novice eight's 10th-place performance in a 20-boat race in a time of 19:07.93. The Shoremen were one of only three boats in the race not from Division I schools. Delaware won the race in 16:42.71, followed by Saint Joseph's in second in 16:55.50 and Army in third in 17:20.86.
- The Shoremen's varsity four wrapped up the day, finishing the men's championship four in 20:34.89 to claim 20th place out of 25 boats. Mobjack RA won the race in 17:54.29, Marietta was second in 17:55.06, and Potomac Boat Club was third in 17:58.92.
