Shoremen's First Varsity Eight Second Among Seven Boats in Worcester

Second Varsity Eight Takes Second in its Race, Third Varsity Eight Third

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Washington College men's rowing team completed its two-day stay in Worcester, Mass., with races this morning against six other schools on Lake Quinsigamond. The Shoremen's first varsity eight captured second place in a race featuring all seven schools competing.

The first varsity eight's second-place time of 6:05.51 was second only to WPI's 6:03.5. Tufts was third in 6:07.56, Vermont fourth in 6:10.82, Skidmore fifth in 6:24.46, Amherst sixth in 6:33.42, and Clark seventh in 6:53.64. 

The second varsity eight was second in a three-boat race in 6:21.62. WPI won the race in 6:11.24, while Tufts was third in 6:22.02. 

Washington's third varsity eight was third of six boats in 6:45.39. WPI won that race as well, in 6:28.1. Tufts was second in 6:35.27, WPI "B" fourth in 6:50.69, Tufts "B" fifth in 6:51.04, and Vermont sixth in 7:17.13. 

Junior John Gould (Litchfield, Conn./The Gunnery) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's first varsity eight. Sophomore Zee Ali (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, junior Ryan Miranda (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) was in the seven seat, sophomore Teddy Connell (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) was in the six seat, sophomore Stuart Grosvenor (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) sat in the five seat, senior Jack Christ (Hydes, Md./Jemicy Upper School) was in the four seat, freshman Joe Stockburger (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) sat in the three seat, freshman Chris Eggstein (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) was in the two seat, and junior Mark Boissonneault (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) was the bow.

Freshman Kelly Valette (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's second varsity eight. Sophomore Alexander Blue (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) sat stroke, junior Nathaniel Giblin (Cazenovia, N.Y./St. Johnsbury Academy [Vt.]) was in the seven seat, junior Ian Briggs (Huntsville, Ala./The Gow School [N.Y.]) sat in the six seat, freshman Jeffrey Wrobel (Henrico, Va./home school) was in the five seat, junior Sean Haynie (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall) was in the four seat, freshman Samson Ramasamy (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) sat in the three seat, junior T. Ian Flinn (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) sat in the two seat, and senior Ben Sproule (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was the bow.

Sophomore Isabelle Ryan (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's third varsity eight. Freshman Erhan LaLumia (Morristown, N.J./Moorestown) sat stroke, freshman Toby Puleo (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) was in the seven seat, sophomore Theo Aris (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) sat in the six seat, sophomore Joey Erlandson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) was in the five seat, sophomore Daniel Benton (Dover, Pa./Dover) sat in the four seat, freshman Brandon Toth (Catonsville, Md./Mount St. Joseph) was in the three seat, freshman Tommy Heffernan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) sat in the two seat, and freshman Anders Larson (Waterville, N.Y./Waterville) was the bow.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Lewisberry, Pa.
