CHANDLER, Ariz. — Washington College freshman forward Kailyn Brandt (White Hall, Md./Hereford) has been named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-South Region second team. Brandt is the first Washington College field hockey student-athlete to ever earn All-Region honors her freshman season.
Earlier this month, Brandt became the first Shorewoman to earn Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year honors in field hockey. She was also named to the All-Centennial Conference first team, becoming just the seventh field hockey freshman in the conference's history to land on the first team.
Brandt scored 10 goals on 56 shots and tallied six assists for a total of 26 points this season. All four of those numbers led her team. She finished second in the Centennial Conference in assists, seventh in both goals and points, and eighth in shots.
Brandt helped lead a resurgent season for the Shorewomen under first-year head coach Anne Kietzman. After going 6-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play in 2016, this year's Shorewomen turned in a 9-9 overall mark and a 6-4 league record. They qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time in three years and hosted the tournament's first-round game as the number-four seed.
