McAuliffe Scores Two Goals in Win
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Centennial Conference play with a 5-0 win over visiting Bryn Mawr this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Owls, who were playing their conference opener, fell to 4-2 overall with the loss.
The Shorewomen got on the board 2:57 into the game on a goal by sophomore attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, MD/Glenelg Country School) off a rebound. Washington took a 2-0 lead on an own goal by Bryn Mawr with 29:48 remaining in the opening half mark to account for the rest of the first-half scoring.
Senior attack Gabby Tarbert (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) extended the lead to 3-0 when she redirected in a ball sent by senior defender Erin Lewns (Fallston, MD/North Harford) just 59 seconds into the second half. McAuliffe made the score 4-0 with her second goal off a rebound of the afternoon with 30:57 to go. The Shorewomen scored their fifth goal when senior midfielder Kristen Wille (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) blasted in a shot off an assist from senior midfielder Hilary Manion (Trappe, PA/Archbishop Carroll) with 15:20 to play.
The Shorewomen held a 27-7 advantage in shots and a 12-3 advantage in penalty corners in the game. Junior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made four saves in the win for the Shorewomen, while Faith Westdorp made 16 in the loss for the Owls. Washington freshman midfielder/defender Emily Eline (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) picked up her first career defensive save in the win.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Gettysburg.
