HOUSTON, TX -- Former Washington College baseball player Greg Perret '09 has been selected to play in the Inaugural Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs All-Star Game to be held on Sunday, July 10, at Griggs Park in Alamogordo, NM, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (3:00 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time). The Pecos League, an independent baseball league, has six teams based in New Mexico and Texas and is currently in its first season as a league in 2011.
Forty-seven players were selected to play in the game and will be divided between the Mountaineers, which will consist of players from the Roswell Invaders, Ruidoso Osos and Alpine Cowboys, and the Zias, which will consist of players from the White Sands Pupfish, Las Cruces Vaqueros and Carlsbad Bats.
Perret, who plays shortstop for the Carlsbad Bats, is hitting .317 on the season in 30 games with 18 runs, 32 hits and three stolen bases. On July 4, Perret had a season-high four hits and scored two runs against Alpine. Prior to joining the Bats this season, the 2009 graduate played professionally in Australia and Belgium.
As a senior in 2009, he enjoyed his best collegiate season hitting .322 with 23 scored, 20 RBI, four doubles, four triples, a home run and nine stolen bases. Perret was the Shoremen's starting shortstop from 2007-09 after transferring from Division II Belmont Abbey. He hit .276 in 93 career games for Washington with 47 runs scored and 44 RBI.
