2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team opened the spring season this weekend by hosting the eight-team Tom Noble Team Race on the Chester River. Washington finished fourth overall in the regatta with a 9-8 head-to-head record. 18th-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the regatta, posting a 16-1 record. Top-ranked St. Mary's was second at 14-3 and fourth-ranked Georgetown was third at 11-6. The eight-team field sailed a full double round robin of 14 races; the top four teams then advanced to a three-race championship round. Junior skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit), senior skipper Seth Olson (Branford, CT/Branford), freshman skipper Mildred Conroy (Newton, MA/Tabor Academy), junior crew John MacLellan (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville), freshman crew Hannah Beekman (Wakefield, RI/South Kingstown), and junior crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) sailed for Washington. Freshman skipper Michael Whitford (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) served as the team's spare.
