2009 STANFORD, CA -- The Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 10 teams at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race, hosted by Stanford University, this weekend. Washington finished with a 4-10 race record at the event. Eighth-ranked Navy won the regatta with a 17-3 record. UC Irvine (11-6), 14th-ranked Stanford (11-6), and USC (10-7) rounded out the top four. Junior skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and junior crew John MacLellan (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville), freshman skipper Michael Whitford (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) and freshman crew Hannah Beekman (Wakefield, RI/South Kingstown), and senior skipper Seth Olson (Branford, CT/Branford) and junior crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) sailed for Washington. Saturday's races began in a light breeze which held for six races. A few races were held in off-and-on wind before the breeze filled in at 3:00 p.m. from the north moving to the north west at 2-12 knots. Round robin races were completed on Sunday morning in a 3-5 knot south-southeast breeze. The finals rounds were held in a westerly breeze of 12-15 knots. The Washington College sailing team is slated to host the Washington College 2-on-2 Team Race and compete at the Navy Spring Women's Intersectional next weekend. |
