2009 WASHINGTON, DC -- The Washington College sailing team finished second of 10 teams at the Arrigan Memorial, hosted by Georgetown, this weekend. Both A and B Divisions boats raced against each other in the regatta. Washington had the highest-finishing B Division team and the second-highest finishing A Division team. Senior skipper Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck) and junior crew John MacLellan (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) represented Washington in A Division, while freshman skipper Michael Whitford (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) and junior crew Genevieve Smith (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) sailed in B Division. Packard and MacLellan and Whitford and Smith won two races each. Twelfth-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the regatta, while top-ranked Georgetown was third. Nine races sailed on Saturday in a light northeast wind of 2-8 miles per hour. Sunday's races were sailed in southwest winds of 15-22 miles per hour. The Washington College sailing team is scheduled to compete at the St. Francis Yacht Club Intersectional next weekend in San Francisco. |
