Washington Finishes 6th at
MAISA Women's Fall Championships

GENEVA, NY -- The Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 12 teams at the MAISA Fall Women's Championships this weekend hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. The performance qualified WC for the Atlantic Coast Women's Championships next weekend at Yale.

Senior skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and sophomore crew Genevieve Smith (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) were fifth in A Division, while senior skipper Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and freshman crew Caroline Hill (Tiverton, RI/Bishop Stang, MA) finished sixth in B Division. Dodd and Smith finished the regatta strong, placing in the top four in each of the final four A Division races, including a first-place finish in the last race.

Fifth-ranked Georgetown won the regatta, followed by fourth-ranked Navy in second and 15th-ranked Hobart/William Smith in third. Seventh-ranked Old Dominion finished ninth. Racing was delayed on Saturday until 11:00 a.m., when a light southerly filled for A Division to sail one race before the southerly died again. Around 1:00 pm, a northerly filled in from 8 to 12 knots and A Division sailed 5 races and B Division sailed four. Sunday's races began in a westerly from 5-10 knots and built to 10-15 knots. A total of 11 races were sailed in each division during the regatta.

Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships at Eckerd College and the Atlantic Coast Women's Championships at Yale.
