Washington 7th at MAISA Freshman
WAC Also 9th at MAISA Sloops

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team was represented in two regattas this weekend, the MAISA Sloops Championships at Navy and the MAISA Freshman Championships at Cornell. Washington finished seventh of 16 teams at the MAISA Freshman and ninth of 10 teams at the MAISA Sloops.

Seniors Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard), junior Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro), and freshman Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) sailed for Washington at the MAISA Sloops Championships.

Eleventh-ranked Kings Point finished first at the MAISA Sloops, followed by Navy in second and Old Dominion in third. Seven races were completed on Saturday in a shifty breeze of 5-10 knots out of the North. Sunday's wind was dead all morning with just enough breeze filling in the late afternoon to finish two more races.

At the MAISA Freshman, freshman skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) finished seventh in A Division. Freshman skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) were sixth in B Division.

Eighth-ranked Georgetown won the MAISA Freshman, followed by seventh-ranked Hobart/William Smith in second and Navy in third. Eight races in each division were held on Saturday under sunny skies. Winds were from the south at two to six knots. Eight more races in each division were sailed on Sunday, which proved to be windier and colder. Sunday's wind ranged from five to 12 knots.

Next weekend, Washington will compete at the War Memorial, the MAISA Fall Championships, hosted by Navy.
