FIRST PLACE - 80 votes

Matt Swanson throws a one-hitter in his collegiate baseball debut as the Shoremen shut out Neumann in the second game of a double-header. Swanson struck out eight batters and walked just two in the victory. Washington's bats provided a run in the first and two more in the fourth to give Swanson support at the plate. The double-header marked the Shoremen's first two home games of the season.

SECOND PLACE - 69 votes

The men's swimming team opens its season by defeating Gettysburg for the first time ever,
winning nine of 11 events to swim away from the Bullets, 125-79. Brothers Colin and Chris Soper and Alex Thomas each won two individual events for the Shoremen, who came into the meet 0-13 all-time against Gettysburg. The victory marked a 142-point swing from the previous year's meet between the two teams, which Gettysburg won, 151-53.

THIRD PLACE - 26 votes
February 22nd
The Washington College men's basketball team tops Muhlenberg, 85-79, in the first round of the Centennial Conference Playoffs behind 29 points from Joey Breslin and 22 points from Jonathan Webb. Muhlenberg held a 67-62 advantage with 8:33 remaining, but the Shoremen, as they had done several times during the season, rallied to score 10 unanswered points and take the lead for good with under six minutes remaining. The win came in the Shoremen's first home playoff game in six years.

In just her second collegiate game, Jane O'Donnell drains a school record-tying seven three-pointers
to lead the women's basketball team to a 63-54 win over Rosemont in the consolation game of Lincoln's James A. Richardson Memorial Tournament. O'Donnell's seven three-pointers came on just 13 attempts; she was 10-of-16 from the field overall, finished the game with 27 points, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Her performance marked the fifth time a Shorewoman has knocked down seven three-pointers in a game.

Katherine O'Brien pounds down a career-high 27 kills on her 21st birthday
to lead the volleyball team past Bryn Mawr, 30-22, 33-35, 30-26, 30-20. O'Brien's 27 kills came against just six errors in 57 attempts. She also tallied 18 digs in the victory. O'Brien just missed the Centennial Conference record of 31 kills in a four-game match. She went on to be named to the All-Centennial Conference second team, marking the first all-conference award for a WC volleyball player in eight years.

Josh Todd scores the game-winner in overtime as the Shoremen win their first game in Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium,
defeating Chestnut Hill, 4-3, in head coach Drew Hoffman's Washington College debut. The teams traded goals throughout the game before Todd knocked in a rebound off a Brian Schultz shot in the 100th minute to give Washington the victory. The game was the first six contests to be played in Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium during Jammin Jesse's Opening Weekend and made Hoffman the first WC men's soccer coach to win his debut in 59 years.

The men's lacrosse team explodes for nine second-quarter goals
in a 16-5 win at Haverford. Haverford, which enjoyed one of its best seasons in years in 2006, came into the game looking for its first-ever win over the Shoremen, but those hopes were dashed by halftime as the nine-goal second quarter gave Washington an 11-3 advantage at the break. Andrew Ostrusky, Chris Read, and Mike Sutter each scored two goals in the second quarter, as the Shoremen scored on 64% of their 14 shots in the period.

Conner Blouin wins his division in his first collegiate sailing regatta
by taking first place in B Division at the Riley Cup. Blouin, sailing with crew Alexandria Starks, started the regatta off strong, winning his very first race, and went on to place first in four of the division's 10 races and in the top five in all but two. Blouin and Starks would go on to win A Division at the OCC Fall Open the very next weekend, giving Blouin two divisional wins in his first two collegiate regattas.

Arturo Solis completed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, win over Swarthmore's Zach Rodd to give the men's tennis team a 4-3 victory
over Swarthmore in a match that was so long it had to be finished inside due to darkness. The match score was tied 3-3 when No. 1 singles had to be moved inside with Solis leading 4-1 in the third set. Both players held serve before the first break as the score of the set moved to 5-2. The eighth game reached deuce five times as Rodd prevailed in the fifth deuce to make the score of the third set 5-3. Solis scored the final three points of the ninth game to give the Shoremen the win.

The women's tennis team records its school-record tying 16th win in the Centennial Conference Semifinals
by defeating Muhlenberg, 8-1. The Shorewomen, who had pulled out a tough 5-4 win at Muhlenberg in the regular season just eight days earlier, rolled past the Mules by sweeping through doubles and winning five of the six singles matches. Their 16th win of the season tied a 15-year old school record.
