2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 Centennial Conference win over visiting McDaniel College this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen improved to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play with the win, while the Green Terror slipped to 4-9 and 0-7 with the loss. McDaniel played with only five players, so the Shoremen picked up wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles before the match began. Senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) downed Ben Faber and Dan Hovorka, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) defeated Adrian Pettaway and Justin Ward, 8-0, at No. 2. Switala clinched the match for the Shoremen with a 6-1, 6-0, win against Ward at No. 3 singles. Todd Green then completed a 6-2, 6-0, win against Faber at No. 2, while Cranford downed Hovorka, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 and Danver blanked Pettaway, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Junior Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) completed the shutout with an 8-1 win against Dan Green at No. 5. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Dickinson. |
