May 1, 2009 BALTIMORE, MD -- Twelfth-ranked host Johns Hopkins defeated visiting Washington College, 5-0, in a Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Semifinal match today in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays improved to 14-3 with the win, while the Shoremen finished the season 11-8 with the loss. Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. David Maldow and Andrew Wang blanked WC senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) and freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg), 8-0, at No. 1. Jacob Barnaby and Casey Blythe downed senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy), 8-4, at No. 2, while Warren Elgort and Ryan Rauck also won by an 8-4 final over senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) at No. 3. The Blue Jays won the first two singles matches to finish to claim the victory as Centennial Conference Tournament rules allow for the completion of the match once the outcome is decided. Elgort beat Cedrowski, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 and Wang downed Ellison, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. |
