#12 Blue Jays Blank Shoremen, 9-0

BALTIMORE, MD -- Visiting Johns Hopkins University, the 12th-ranked team in Division III and second-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated host Washington College, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Blue Jays improved to 11-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 9-7 and 4-3 with the loss.

Hopkins won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. David Maldow and Andrew Wang, ranked second in the region in doubles, beat sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC), 8-2, at No. 1. Warren Elgort and Ryan Rauck topped senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD), 8-2, at No. 2, and Jacob Barnaby and Peter Vale defeated freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy) and freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg), 8-1, at No. 3.

The Blue Jays extended the lead to 4-0 when Ellison was forced to retire due to injury against Wang at No. 2 singles. Wang, the fifth-ranked singles player in the region, was leading, 6-3, 1-0, when Ellison retired. Hopkins clinched the win when Elgort completed a 6-3, 6-1, victory at No. 3. Barnaby made it 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-3, victory against Green at No. 4. Orlando Ferrer added a 6-3, 6-4, victory against Switala at No. 5, while Maldow, the region's third-ranked singles player, rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, win against Cranford at No. 1. Vale completed the Blue Jay sweep with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, win against Danver at No. 6.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. home match against McDaniel.
