Washington Sweeps Singles in Win

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The Washington College men's tennis team won all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Hastings (NE) College, an NAIA school, today at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. The Shoremen improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Broncos slipped to 1-3 with the loss.

Washington took a 2-1 lead in doubles play. Sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) blanked Travis Bronson and Christopher Ondrey, 8-0, at No. 2 and senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) defeated Grant Nagaki and Andrew Huber, 8-2, at No. 3. The Broncos got on the board when Will Hotz and Tyler Benson completed an 8-3 win over sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy) at No. 1.

In singles, Cedrowski beat Bronson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 and Switala downed Huber, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 to increase the Shoremen's lead to 4-1. Danver clinched the win for the Shoremen with a 6-1, 6-1, victory against Nagaki at No. 5. Green then added 7-5, 6-3, win over Ondrey at No. 4 and Cranford bested Hotz, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1. Freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) completed the Shoremen's sweep of singles by besting Benson, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 2.

The Shoremen complete their spring break trip tomorrow with a 10:00 a.m. Mountain match against Air Force.
