2009 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team won its Centennial Conference opener today, defeating host Gettysburg, 7-2. The Shoremen (6-3, 1-0 Centennial) were also scheduled to play a non-conference match at Goucher this afternoon, but that match was postponed with a make-up date not yet announced. Washington won two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) beat Terry Keegan and Sebastian Rodriguez, 8-4, at No. 2, while senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) topped Kevin Raynes and Corey Marsh, 8-0, at No. 3. Mike Leary and Dale Beshore picked up the win for the Bullets at No. 1, beating sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy), 8-5. Cranford downed Beshore, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) beat Leary, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, at No 2, while Green beat Mike McLaughlin, 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 10-7, at No. 4. Danver downed Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 and Switala beat Raynes, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6. The Bullets won at No. 3 as Keegan notched a 6-2, 6-4, victory against Cedrowski at No. 3. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Haverford. |
