Shoremen Drop Diplomats, 8-1
Cedrowski Clinches Match with Win at No. 3 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College defeated visiting Franklin & Marshall, 8-1, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match today inside the Johnson Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Diplomats fell to 3-4 and 0-2 with the loss.

WC sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) opened singles with an 8-0 blanking of Josh Calo and Paul Salierno at No. 2. The Diplomats pulled even with an 8-6 win by Armen Vartan and Doug Silverstein over sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy) at No. 1. Senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) put the Shoremen back in front with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles against Eric Rouff and Brad Nelson.

The Shoremen opened up a 3-1 lead following a 6-4, 6-2, victory by Cranford against Vartan at No. 1 singles. Freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) brought the Shoremen to within a point of clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-4, victory against Silverstein at No. 2. Cedrowski clinched the win for the Shoremen with a 6-4, 6-4, triumph over Nelson at No. 3. Green added a 6-4, 6-1 win against Rouff at No. 4, Switala won, 8-1, against Calo at No. 5, and Danver bested Tolly Taylor, 8-1, at No. 6.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Swarthmore.
