Shoremen Edge Red Devils, 5-4
Washington Clinches Centennial Conference Playoff Berth

CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team clinched the fourth and final berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 5-4 win over host Dickinson this afternoon in Carlisle, PA, in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Shoremen improved to 11-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while the Red Devils fell to 11-8 and 4-5.

The Shoremen took a 2-1 lead after doubles play by winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) were 8-1 winners over Pavel Hejsek and Matt Wood at No. 2, while senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) beat Trevor Heck and Bo Marshall, 8-4, at No. 3. Dickinson won at No. 1 as Ross Anstaett and Hunter Holbrook beat sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy), 8-6.

Dickinson won three of the first five singles matches to finish to knot the score at 4-4. The Red Devils were victors at the top three spots as Anstaett bested Cranford, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, Holbrook defeated freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg), 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, and Heck was a 6-2, 6-2, winner against Cedrowski at No. 3. The Shoremen won in straight sets at No. 4, where Green bested Hejsek, 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 6, where Danver downed Kurt Mendelson, 6-0, 6-1. Washington won the match when Switala complete a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, victory against Marshall at No. 5.

The Shoremen will play top seed and host Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference Semifinal match this Friday.
