27, 2009 BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Washington College men's tennis team slipped to 1-1 on the season with a 9-0 loss to Birmingham-Southern today in a match played indoors at Samford University. The Shoremen were also slated to play at Division I Alabama-Birmingham today, but that match was canceled due to rain. The Panthers (5-1) won all three doubles matches as Michael Locandro and John Freeman pulled out an 8-6 win over sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy) at No. 1, Faris Pacha and Matt Mabry beat sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC), 8-4, at No. 2, and John Zukley and Will Boucek defeated senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD), 9-7, at No. 3. In singles, Locandro downed Cranford, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, while Freeman topped freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg), 6-2, 5-7, 10-6, at No. 2. Pacha notched a 6-4, 6-1, win over Green at No. 3, while Mabry downed Cedrowski, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Zukley rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-5, win over Danver at No. 5 and Richard Pearlman edged Switala, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 6. The Shoremen will play an exhibition match against Oxford College of Emory March 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The Shoremen will play a regular season match against Robert Morris at Rollins at 5:30 p.m. later that day. |
