2009 COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Host Air Force topped visiting Washington College, 6-1, in men's tennis action today in Colorado Springs, CO. The Falcons improved to 4-10 with the victory, while the Shoremen, who completed their spring break trip to Florida and Colorado with the loss, slipped to 3-3. The match was played under Division I scoring rules with one point awarded to the team that wins at least two of the three doubles matches. Air Force swept doubles to pick up the first point of the match. Austin Francis and Cody Hall beat WC sophomore Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and freshman Kyle Lisco (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), 8-2, at No. 1, Brett Rogers and Taylor Soster downed sophomore Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and senior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC), 9-8(3), at No. 2, and Johnny Buckingham and Will Brown were 8-5 winners over senior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and senior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) at No. 3. The Falcons won the first three singles matches to finish to clinch the victory. Hall defeated freshman Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg), 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2, Rogers topped freshman Brian Cedrowski (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair-Kimberley Academy), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Soster beat Green, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4. Francis then added a 7-5, 6-2, win over Cranford at No. 1. Danver put the Shoremen on the board with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4, victory against Buckingham at No. 5. Alex Beaussart edged Switala, 9-8(6) at No. 6 to provide Air Force's final point. The Shoremen return to action March 28th with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Gettysburg and 4:30 p.m. match at Goucher. |
