2008 PRINCESS ANNE , MD -- Visiting Washington College rolled to a 7-1 win over Division I host Maryland-Eastern Shore today in a men's tennis match played in cold and windy conditions in Princess Anne, MD. The Shoremen moved to 4-0 with the victory and are off to their best start since the 2004 season, when they opened 8-0. The Hawks fell to 0-4 with the loss. Washington won by default at third doubles and captured the Freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) beat Rashad James and Dorian Thomas, 8-1, at No. 1, while sophomores Derek Wise (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) and Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) were 8-1 winners over Harold Fowler and William Ntirenganya at No. 2. Fifth singles was played during doubles and Washington junior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) blanked Delonte Monk, 6-0, 6-0. The Hawks, who competed with only five players, defaulted at No. 6 singles, giving Washington a 5-0 advantage and clinching the victory for the Shoremen. With the match decided and the weather unfavorable, the remaining singles matches were played as one pro set each. The Hawks picked up their point at No. 1, where James beat Parks, 8-6. Cranford was an 8-1 winner over Thomas at No. 2, while junior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) bested Fowler, 8-1, at No. 3. Fourth singles was not played. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 4:00 p.m. match against Northwestern (MN) in Hilton Head, SC. |
