Shoremen Deflect Bullets, 6-3
10-0 Start is Best for Shoremen Since 2001

GETTYSBURG, PA -- Visiting Washington College defeated host Gettysburg College, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon in Gettysburg, PA. The Shoremen improved to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the win and are off to their best start to a season since opening the 2001 campaign with 13 straight wins. The 10th win of the year also marks the 22nd time in the past 24 seasons that the Shoremen have recorded at least 10 victories.

The Shoremen took a 2-1 lead in the match by winning at two of the three doubles spots. Dale Beshore and Kyle Naylor beat WC junior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and freshman Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai), 8-1, at No. 1 to put the Bullets on the board first, but freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) downed Derin Wilson and Mike Leary, 8-3, at No. 2 and junior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and freshman Jon Keller (Frederick, MD/Frederick) were 8-3 winner against Patrick Dempsey and Kevin Raynes at No. 3.

Washington won the first three singles matches to finish to clinch the victory as Green defeated Dempsey, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4, Danver bested Leary, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, and Switala topped Wilson, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. Raynes picked up a point for the Bullets with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5, victory against Laux at No. 5. Cranford then finished off a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, win against Beshore at No. 1. Gettysburg's other singles win came at No. 6 where Naylor defeated Keller, 7-5, 1-6, 10-5.

The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
