Shoremen Edge Red Devils, 5-4
Green Clinches Match with Win at No. 3 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College defeated visiting Dickinson College, 5-4, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match today inside the Johnson Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen, ranked 18th in the Atlantic South region, remained undefeated at 8-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils, ranked 20th in the region, fell to 5-5 and 1-2 with the loss.

Washington took a 2-1 lead after doubles by winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) bested Bo Marshall and Matt Wood, 8-2, at No. 2, while freshman Jon Keller (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and junior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) topped Trevor Heck and Pavel Hejsek, 8-1, at No. 3. Ross Anstaett and Hunter Holbrook picked up Dickinson's point with an 8-2 win against freshman Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and junior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) at No. 1.

The Shoremen captured the first three singles matches to finish to clinch the victory. Switala beat Marshall, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2, Cranford downed Anstaett, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1, and Green provided Washington's fifth point with a 7-5, 7-6(2), win against Wood at No. 3. The Red Devils then picked up their next two points when Heck beat Danver, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 and Rich Rosenthal downed Keller, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 6. Hejsek accounted for Dickinson's fourth point of the match by defeating Laux, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Franklin & Marshall.
