14, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD - A balanced effort led the Washington College men's swimming team past visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland, 108-93, in a non-conference meet today at Casey Swim Center. Five different Shoremen won one individual event each for Washington, which improved to 2-1 with the win. St. Mary's fell to 4-1 with the loss. Junior Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook), senior Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and sophomore Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) each recorded one first-place and one second-place individual finish. Violette won the 200 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 1:54.05 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:09.14. Soper won the 100 freestyle in 50.61 and took second in the 50 freestyle in 22.90. Auger touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.42 and placed second in the 100 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 1:03.19. Senior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) added a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 54.89, while sophomore Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) won the 100 backstroke in 56.75. Pollock and Longworth also swam on both winning relay teams. Longworth, Auger, Pollock, and Soper won the 200 medley relay in 1:41.94. Longworth, Violette, junior Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and Pollock won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.42. Freshman A.J. Feurer (Kingsville, MD/Archbishop Curley) turned in a second-place finish for the Shoremen in the 1000 freestyle in 10:44.89. The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall.
