2009 KEY LARGO, FL - The Washington College men's swim team finished fifth of five teams at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic this morning in Key Largo, FL. The Shoremen were the only non-Division I team competing in the men's portion of the event. Michigan won the meet, followed by Duke in second, George Mason in third, and Stony Brook in fourth. The event was held outdoors in the 25-meter pool at the Jacobs Aquatic Center. Freshman Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) was sixth in the 50 backstroke in 31.25 and eighth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.39. Freshman Johnny Helenek (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) was 10th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.20 and 10th in the 50 breaststroke in 33.85. Freshman Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) placed seventh in the 50 breaststroke in 33.04, junior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) was ninth in the 50 butterfly in 27.20, and senior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) finished 10th in the 50 freestyle in 27.08. The Shoremen return to action Tuesday, January 13th, with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Goucher.
