21, 2008 LANCASTER, PA - Host Franklin & Marshall College downed visiting Washington College, 117-75, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action this evening in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference meets with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-2 and 0-2. Senior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) won the 500 freestyle in 5:12.63 for the Shoremen and swam the lead-off leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with sophomore Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook), junior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military), and freshman Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) to complete the race in a Washington College season-best time of 3:26.19. Wentzel was also second in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.82. Freshman Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) won the 200 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 2:21.51, making him the Shoremen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Violette was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:49.72, Longworth was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.47, and junior Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) was second in the 50 freestyle in 23.60. The Shoremen return to action December 2nd with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference home meet against Widener.
