1, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Salisbury University scored three times in the first half en route to a 4-0 men's soccer victory over host Washington College in the season opener for both teams tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Sea Gulls netted the first goal of the game at 8:04 when Benjamin Reed scored on a breakaway. Salisbury added its second goal at 31:40 as Nick Malone scored off a double assist from Joe Rubel and Alex Hargrove. Malone scored his second goal at 33:26 off an assist from Greg Taylor. Kyle Sterling gave the Sea Gulls a four-goal cushion with a penalty-kick goal at 48:13. Salisbury held a 24-3 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made seven saves for the Shoremen in the loss. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game at Randolph-Macon.
