5, 2009 ASHLAND, VA -- Sophomore forward/midfielder Jordan Haas (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute to give Washington College a 1-0 men's soccer victory over host Randolph-Macon this afternoon in Ashland, VA. The Shoremen improved to 1-1 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2 with the loss. Randolph-Macon held a 4-3 edge in shots in the first half as both teams' defenses controlled the opening period. Haas headed in a ball off a long cross from sophomore forward Mike Vanaskie (Lancaster, PA/Cocalico) at 57:18 to provide all the scoring the Shoremen would need in the second half. Junior goalkeeper James Bedrock (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) made five saves in the win. Jason DePre made one stop for the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon held a 10-7 edge in shots in the game; Washington maintained a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Arcadia.
