2009 WESTMINSTER, MD -- Host McDaniel College topped visiting Washington College, 3-1, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game this afternoon in Westminster, MD. The Green Terror improved to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-8 and 0-4 with the loss. The Green Terror took an early lead as Micah Powell scored off an assist from David Cross at 2:07. McDaniel took the 1-0 advantage into halftime after holding a slim 8-7 advantage in shots in the period. Cross upped the lead to 2-0 with a goal at 70:28. Playing a man down due to a red card, the Shoremen got on the board at 85:39 as freshman Tim Marcin (Wilmington, DE/Concord) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from freshman Matt Sedney (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). McDaniel tacked on its third goal at 89:42 as Powell found Eddy Lingue for a score. McDaniel finished with a 19-11 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks in the game. Robert Hollasch made three saves in the win for McDaniel, while sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made five in the loss for Washington. The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Catholic.
