16, 2009 TOWSON, MD -- Host Goucher College posted a 4-0 win over visiting Washington College in non-conference men's soccer action tonight in Towson, MD. The Gophers improved to 5-1 with the victory, while the Shoremen slipped to 2-3 with the loss. Goucher scored two goals in a two-minute span in the first half to open the scoring as Evan Rosse netted a goal off an assist from Tim McMullen at 22:13 and McMullen scored on a penalty kick at 24:13. Jay Berger then scored off an assist from Manuel Carranza at 32:31 to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead at the half. Berger added Goucher's fourth goal at 53:09. Justin Holbrook made four saves for Goucher, which held a 17-9 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) played the first 79:57 for the Shoremen, making six saves and allowing the four Goucher goals. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 3:00 p.m. home game against Dickinson.
