2009 GETTYSBURG, PA -- Host Gettysburg College scored once in each half to defeat visiting Washington College, 2-0, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game tonight in Gettysburg, PA. The Bullets improved to 6-5-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-12 and 0-6 with the loss. The Bullets got on the board at 24:35 when Ryan Shaffer scored on a shot to the low-right corner of the goal off an assist from Kyle DeBlois. Gettysburg took the one-goal lead into halftime and made it 2-0 when Chris Brown buried a rebound off a shot by Rich Kampert at 74:19. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) played the first half in goal for the Shoremen, making one save. Junior goalkeeper James Bedrock (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) made nine stops in the second half. Mike Walmer got the shutout in goal for the Bullets without making a save. Gettysburg held a 34-7 advantage in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game. The Shoremen return to action October 24th with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Ursinus.
