2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Catholic University scored twice in each half en route to a 4-0 non-conference men's soccer win over host Washington College tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 9-2 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-9 with the loss. The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead when Tim McAneny blasted in a high shot from well outside the box at 23:06. Kevin Duffy made it 2-0 with another long goal at 33:44. Catholic tacked on its third goal when Brian Maher scored following a cross in the box from Mike Brennan at 71:46. Nick Santarlasci made it 4-0 when he knocked in a ball which rebounded out following a shot by Brian Pappas at 80:29. Catholic goalkeeper Thomas O'Leary played the first half for the Cardinals and made two saves. Tom Berlenbach played the second half and made four saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) played the first 76:17 of the game for the Shoremen, making 10 saves and allowing three goals. Freshman Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) played the remainder of the game, making two saves and allowing one goal. Freshman Matt Sedney (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) took a team-high three shots for Washington. Catholic held a 25-11 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Muhlenberg.
