Varsity Boats Win at Phila. U.
Shoremen Take Two of Three Men's Race in Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Washington College men's rowing team won two of the three men's races in a regatta hosted by Philadelphia University and also featuring Dowling College and Villanova University this morning in Philadelphia.

The Shoremen won the varsity four in 7:39.0 with Philadelphia finishing second in 7:44.4, Dowling third in 7:57.0, and Villanova fourth in 8:37.2. The course was 1,500 meters against the current.

Washington won the varsity eight, which was also against the current but shortened to 1,000 meters, in 4:54.5. Philadelphia was second in 4:55.0, Villanova third in 5:02.7, and Dowling fourth in 5:28.8.

No times were recorded for the 1,500-meter men's novice four, but Philadelphia won the race followed by the Shoremen in second and Villanova in third.

Junior Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Junior Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, sophomore Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) sat in the three seat, sophomore Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) was in the two seat, and sophomore Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) was in the bow.

Senior Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) served as the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight. Junior Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) sat stroke, junior Tommy Price (Pasadena, MD/Severn School) was in the seven seat, junior Kevin Rodriguez (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) sat in the six seat, junior Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) was in the five seat, junior Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) was in the four seat, junior Quentin Swain (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) sat in the three seat, junior Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat in the two seat, and senior Matthew Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was the bow.

Freshman Isabel Derera (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) served as coxswain for the Shoremen's novice four. Sophomore Guy Tawney (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School) sat stroke, freshman Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazleton Area, PA) was in the three seat, freshman Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) was in the two seat, and freshman Zack Holocker (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) was the bow.

The Shoremen return to action Friday and Saturday at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, NJ.
