2009 PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Washington College men's rowing team opened its fall regatta schedule this morning by entering four boats in the men's collegiate four at the Philadelphia Navy Day regatta. The Shoremen's "A" boat led the way with a seventh place finish out of 22 boats. Senior Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "A" boat, which completed the course in 14:43.16. Senior Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, junior Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the three seat, junior Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) sat in the two seat, and senior R. Scott Jones (Maple Glen, PA/La Salle College HS) was the bow. Junior Susanne Vaughn (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "B" boat, which was 15th in 15:14.41.. Senior Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) sat stroke, senior Tommy Price (Pasadena, MD/Severn School) was in the three seat, freshman Robert Storck (Wilton, CT/St. Mark's School, MA) sat in the two seat, and freshman Sam Hartman (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was the bow. Sophomore Isabel Derera (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "C" boat, which placed 18th in 15:56.42. Senior Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat stroke, senior Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) was in the three seat, junior Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) was in the two seat, and sophomore Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazleton Area, PA) was the bow. Junior Eric Swenson (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "D" boat, which placed 19th in 16:11.92. Sophomore Zack Holocker (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) sat stroke, sophomore Brian Haluska (Chesterfield, NJ/Notre Dame) was in the three seat, sophomore Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) sat in the two seat, and senior Quentin Swain (Pasadena, MA/Mount St. Joseph) was the bow. Navy won the men's collegiate four in 14:16.83. The Shoremen return to action next weekend at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, MA. |
