2009 YORK, PA -- The Washington College men's rowing team won the novice four and finished second of six teams overall at today's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships held at Gifford Pinchot State Park in York County, PA. Mary Washington captured the overall conference championship. The Shoremen won the five-boat novice four by several boat-lengths, finishing in 7:12.15. Mary Washington was second in 7:45.08, Franklin & Marshall third in 7:48.45, Johns Hopkins fourth in 7:49.50, and Rutgers-Camden fifth in 8:05.18. Freshman Isabel Derera (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) served as coxswain for the Shoremen's novice four. Sophomore Guy Tawney (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School) sat stroke, freshman Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazleton Area, PA) was in the three seat, freshman Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) was in the two seat, and freshman Zack Holocker (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) was the bow. Washington was also second in the varsity eight in 6:50.26 behind first-place Mary Washington, who finished in 6:31.1. Franklin & Marshall was third in 6:57.76, while Johns Hopkins was fourth in 7:27.77. Junior Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight. Junior Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, sophomore Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) sat in the seven seat, sophomore Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) was in the six seat, sophomore Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) was in the five seat, junior Kevin Rodriguez (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) sat in the four seat, junior Tommy Price (Pasadena, MD/Severn School) was in the three seat, junior Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was in the two seat, and senior Matthew Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was the bow. The Shoremen were fifth in the varsity four in 7:27.13. Mary Washington won the event in 6:53.8, Johns Hopkins "A" was second in 7:10.48, North Park was third in 7:21.52, Johns Hopkins "B" was fourth in 7:26.13, and Rutgers-Camden was sixth in 7:43.19. Senior Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) served as the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Junior Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat stroke, junior Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) was in the three seat, junior Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat in the two seat, and junior Quentin Swain (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was the bow. The Shoremen return to action May 8th and 9th at the Dad Vail regatta in Philadelphia. |
