2009 BALTIMORE, MD -- The Washington College men's rowing team won all three men's events at this morning's Caspersen Cup regatta in Baltimore, MD. The Shoremen combined with the Shorewomen, who won both women's events, to finish first in the overall point standings and win the cup in the annual regatta against Johns Hopkins and St. John's (MD) College. The Shoremen's "A" boat won the varsity eight in 6:37, followed by Johns Hopkins in second in 6:46. Washington's "B" boat was third in 7:02, while St. John's finished fourth in 7:36. The Shoremen won the varsity four in 7:06, followed by the Johns Hopkins "A" and "B" boats in second (7:29) and third (7:38), respectively, and St. John's in fourth in 8:04. In the novice four, the Shoremen took first place in 7:24.28, followed by Johns Hopkins in second in 7:56.13 and St. John's in third in 8:17.86. Junior Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's "A" boat in the varsity eight. Junior Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, junior Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was in the seven seat, sophomore Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) was in the six seat, sophomore Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) sat in the five seat, sophomore Guy Tawney (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School) was in the four seat, sophomore Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) sat in the three seat, junior Kevin Rodriguez (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) was in the two seat, and junior Tommy Price (Pasadena, MD/Severn School) was the bow. Sophomore Eric Swenson (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "B" boat in the varsity eight. Junior Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat stroke, freshman Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazleton Area, PA) was in the seven seat, junior Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat in the six seat, junior Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) was in the five seat, freshman Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) was in the four seat, junior Quentin Swain (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) sat in the three seat, freshman Zack Holocker (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) was in the two seat, and senior Matthew Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was the bow. Senior Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) served as the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Gamble sat stroke, Smith was in the three seat, Zaborskiy was in the two seat, and Herland was the bow. Freshman Isabel Derera (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) served as coxswain for the Shoremen's novice four. Tawney sat stroke, Harrison sat in the three seat, Annab was in the two seat, and Holocker was the bow. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a home regatta against fellow Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference member Franklin & Marshall. |
