2008 WINTER PARK, FL -- The Washington College men's rowing team won the varsity four at the Rollins University Spring Break Race this morning on Lake Maitland in Winter Park, FL. The Shoremen also finished second in the men's varsity eight and second in the men's novice four. The Shoremen's boat in the varsity four finished the course in 7:15.8, nearly six seconds ahead of second-place Rollins (7:21.6). Washington's varsity eight finished in 7:05.1, coming in behind first-place Rollins (6:52.7). The Shoremen's novice four completed the course in 7:35.4. Rollins also won the novice four in 7:30.3. Senior Ashleigh Genevich (Avon Grove, PA/Avon Grove) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's lightweight four which competed in the varsity four. Sophomore Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, senior Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) was in the three seat, junior Matt Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) sat in the two seat, and sophomore R. Scott Jones (Maple Glen, PA/La Salle College HS) was the bow. Sophomore Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight. Junior Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat stroke, sophomore Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was in the seven seat, sophomore Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat in the six seat, sophomore Tommy Price (Pasadena, MD/Severn School) was in the five seat, sophomore Keenan Wheeler (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) sat in the four seat, freshman Jake Ludemann (Wilton, CT/St. Luke's) was in the three seat, freshman Frank LaMotte (Chestertown, MD) was in the two seat, and sophomore Quentin Swain (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was the bow. Freshman Eric Swenson (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's novice four. Freshman Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) sat stroke, sophomore Ryan Beaston (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) was in the three seat, freshman Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) sat in the two seat, and freshman Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was the bow. The Shoremen return to action when they host the Caspersen Cup on March 29th.
