2008 CAMDEN, NJ -- The Washington College men's rowing team finished third overall in the lightweight four at the Knecht Cup held in Camden, NJ, yesterday and today. Washington also competed in the frosh/novice four, which advanced to the petite final, and the varsity four. The lightweight four won its six-boat heat in 6:59.0, finishing over four seconds ahead of second-place Virginia Teach (7:03.4), to advance to the final. In Sunday's final, the lightweights finished third. The frosh/novice four won its six-boat heat in 7:07.8, over eight seconds ahead of second-place Marietta (7:16.0), to earn a spot in the semifinals. In the Shoremen's six-boat semifinal, the novices were fourth in 7:21.0 to move into Sunday's petite final. In the petite final, the novices were running in second place with 100 meters to go before an equipment malfunction dropped them back to fifth place. Washington's varsity four was fifth of six boats in its heat on Saturday in 7:29.2. Senior Ashleigh Genevich (Avon Grove, PA/Avon Grove) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's lightweight four. Sophomore Brian Gamble (Gibson Island, MD/Holderness School, NH) sat stroke, senior Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) was in the three seat, sophomore R. Scott Jones (Maple Glen, PA/La Salle College HS) sat in the two seat, and junior Matt Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was the bow. Freshman Eric Swenson (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) served as coxswain of the Shoremen's novice four. Freshman Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) sat stroke, freshman Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the three seat, freshman Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Ryan Beaston (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) was the bow. Sophomore Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Sophomore Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) sat stroke, freshman Jake Ludemann (Wilton, CT/St. Luke's) was in the three seat, junior Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Keenan Wheeler (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) was the bow. The Shoremen return to action Saturday and Sunday at the Worcester Regatta in Worcester, MA. |
