2008 BOSTON, MA -- The Washington College men's rowing team competed in two events at the Head of the Charles, the world's largest rowing regatta, today in Boston. The Shoremen placed 11th of 31 boats in the collegiate four and 34th of 43 boats in the club four. Washington's collegiate four finished the the three-mile course in 17:31.758. Junior Springer Harris (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's collegiate four. Sophomore Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok) sat stroke, sophomore Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the three seat, sophomore Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) was in the two seat, and junior R, Scott Jones (Maple Glen, PA/La Salle College HS) was the bow. The Shoremen's club four completed the course in 18:55.719. Senior Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's club four. Junior Andrew Newell (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sat stroke, senior Matthew Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was in the three seat, junior Dan Pierce (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was in the two seat, and junior Ryan Beaston (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) was the bow. The Shoremen return to action next Saturday when they host the Tapke Chase regatta on the Chester River. |
