Read Achieves Honor for Third Time

BOSTON, MA -- Senior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) became the 23rd three-time All-American in Washington College men's lacrosse history and three other Shoremen were awarded All-America status for the first time at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America Reception held Sunday in Boston, MA. Read was named to the second team, while junior goalie Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan), senior attackman Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County), and senior defenseman Connor Gerken (New Fairfield, CT/Wilton) were honorable mention selections.

Read, who was an All-America honorable mention in 2006 and 2007, is also a three-time All-Centennial Conference first team pick. He led the Shoremen with 51 goals and was third on the team with 26 assists for a team-leading 77 points this season. He also scooped up 45 ground balls. He ranked first in the Centennial Conference in points per game, sixth in assists per game, and second in goals per game. Through May 18th, he ranked 21st in Division III in points per game, 22nd in goals per game, and 84th in assists per game. Read was the first Shoreman in four years to score at least 50 goals in one season.

Kirby, a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, was second among Shoremen in goals with 42, second in assists with 29, and second in points with 71. Thirteen of his goals came on extra-man opportunities, which led the team and tied for the most in the Centennial Conference. He also ranked second in the conference in points per game, fourth in assists per game, and seventh in goals per game. Through May 18th, he ranked 30th in Division III in points per game, 54th in assists per game, and 57th in goals per game.

Cohen, who was named to the 2008 All-Centennial Conference first team, posted a .599 save percentage, and a 9.11 goals-against average this season. He also averaged a Centennial Conference-leading 13.06 saves per game, while finishing second in the conference in save percentage. Cohen also had 69 ground balls on the year, second-most on the team, and recorded his first collegiate point by picking up an assist in a win over Ursinus.

Gerken led all Washington defensemen with 42 ground balls on the season and picked up his first career assist against Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference Championship game. Gerken is the first Shoreman in 11 years to earn All-America status without being named to the All-Centennial Conference team. (Mike Wilson was the first Shoreman to achieve that feat when he was named All-America honorable mention in 1997).
